Agrotechnics.
Seeds are sown in March. To ensure that the seeds germinate faster and more evenly, the sowing is covered with glass or film. The temperature of the substrate in which the seeds are sown should not be lower than +21+25°C, the room temperature should not be lower than +23°C.
After 2-4 leaves appear, the sprouts are planted one by one. You can plant one sprout or 2 sprouts in a flower pot - it is important that the pot has a volume of at least 15 liters.
Flower pots are taken out to unglazed balconies or open terraces when there is no longer a danger of frost.
* As a rule, tomatoes do not set fruit well and often shed buds, especially on the first two brushes, due to poor pollination. Try to shake the brushes with flowers lightly every day, preferably in the morning. If you have planted a few plants, then you can pollinate them by barely touching the flowers with a soft brush or just cotton wool.
Under what conditions are tomato flowers better pollinated?
Tomato is a self-pollinating plant. Tomato pollen is heavy and poorly carried by the wind, so it gets on the stigma of the same flower 2-3 days earlier than the ovules ripen. This is very important to consider when obtaining hybrid seeds. In order for seeds to form, the stamens with unripe pollen are removed from the flower and pollinated with pollen taken from a flower of another variety. Fertilization of the flower occurs at an air temperature of +24+32°C. Lower or higher temperatures lead to pollination failure. At high temperatures (over +32°C), the pistil stretches above the stamens and pollination does not occur.
